The Pencil is a surface lure designed for long distance casting. The lure slides over the water whilst the slender nose makes small water sprays on each side. You need to work this lure quite fast. One of the best ways of working this lure is to give short rod tip jerks repeatedly keeping the rod high so that the nose of the lure hits the surface under retrieve. The Pencil is the champion of distance casting and you can fish it all day long as it doesn't create much drag in the water.
